Air-Fryer Baked Potatoes (Crispy on the Outside and Fluffy on the Inside)

My air-fryer baked potatoes recipe is as simple as they come! Coated in olive oil and seasoned well, you can eat them anytime, with endless mains and toppings.

Air-Fryer Baked Potatoes in a Bowl

Air-fryer baked potatoes are so easy to make, and they’re perfect if you’re cooking for 2-4 people. If cooking for more than 4 people, I’d recommend baking potatoes in the oven (unless you have a large air fryer that fits more than 4 potatoes).

Ingredients

To make my air-fryer baked potatoes, you’ll only need the following:

Ingredients for Air-Fryer Baked Potatoes in a Bowl
  • Potatoes – 4 baking potatoes (Russet, Maris Piper, or King Edwards)
  • Oil – 1 tbsp of olive oil (or another oil you prefer)
  • Salt – 1 tbsp of kosher salt
  • Baked Potato Toppings (such as sour cream, cheddar, spring onions, bacon, etc)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 – Wash the potatoes (scrubbing them well to remove any dirt) and then pat them dry.

Step 2 – Poke holes in the potatoes with a knife or fork and then rub them with oil and season them with salt.

Step 3 – Preheat the air fryer for a few minutes (according to the manufacturer’s instructions or default to 3-4 minutes if unsure).

Step 4 – Add the potatoes and air fry at 390°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes. Then, flip the potatoes and keep cooking them until they are tender (about 15-30 minutes more, depending on the size of the potatoes you’re using).

Potatoes in an air fryer

To test if the potatoes are ready, use a fork or knife to pierce the potato. If it pierces easily and it feels tender, then it’s ready.

The smaller potatoes you see pictured here took about 40 minutes, and the larger ones took 50 minutes.

Once they’re ready, plate them up. The fun is only just beginning!

Air-Fryer Baked Potato Tips

  • Best Potatoes for Air-Frying and Baking: For air frying or baking, you want to use high-starch (floury) potatoes. When air-fried or baked, they’ll be fluffy on the inside but with a crispy skin on the outside. In the US, you’ll generally use Russet potatoes (also known as Idaho potatoes if they’re grown in Idaho). In the UK, look for Maris Piper or King Edwards.
  • In a Hurry? You could cut down on the cooking time if you microwave the potatoes first before air frying them. If using this method, poke holes in the potatoes and then microwave for about 5 minutes. Then, rub them with oil and salt and add them to the pre-heated air fryer, cooking them until ready (for about 10 minutes, depending on the size of the potatoes). Flip them in the air fryer halfway through.
