Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup hazelnut milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 bananas 1 for the oatmeal and 1 to be sliced for the topping
  • 3 tbsp honey or sugar more or less to taste
  • a pinch of salt
  • a couple of squares of chocolate to be melted for the topping

Instructions

  • To a blender, add a peeled banana, the hazelnut milk, cocoa powder, and water. Blend the ingredients together.
  • To a small pot, over medium-high heat, add the blended cocoa-hazelnut-banana mixture, the oats, honey (or sugar), and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and then turn to low and simmer it for about 5-10 minutes until you achieve the desired consistency.
  • In a small, microwaveable bowl, melt the chocolate in 15-second increments, stirring after each time.
  • Top the oatmeal with banana slices and melted chocolate (and more honey to taste).

Notes

Oats – I used Scottish oats, but you can also use rolled oats or quick-cooking oats. If using steel-cut oats (not the quick-cooking steel-cut oats), you generally need to simmer for about 20 minutes. In this case, increase the liquid by adding another half cup of milk or water.
