This banana hazelnut chocolate oatmeal recipe is rich, sweet, and very satisfying. Made from a base of hearty oats and hazelnut milk, cocoa powder adds the deep chocolate flavor, while banana and honey add the sweetness.

Topped with sliced banana and melted chocolate, this recipe propels your morning oatmeal into the dessert menu. Unless, of course, you’re feeling a chocolatey breakfast treat!

Ingredients

To make this naughty little treat yourself, you’ll need the following:

Ingredients for banana hazelnut chocolate oatmeal
  • Oats – 1 cup oats
  • Hazelnut Milk – 1 cup
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Cocoa Powder – 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • Banana – 2 bananas (1 for the oatmeal and 1 to be sliced for the topping)
  • Salt – pinch of salt
  • Chocolate – a couple of squares of chocolate (to be melted for the topping)
  • Honey or Sugar – 3 tbsp (more or less to taste)

Ingredient Notes

Oats – I used Scottish oats, but you can also use rolled oats or quick-cooking oats. If using steel-cut oats (not the quick-cooking steel-cut oats), you generally need to simmer for about 20 minutes. In this case, increase the liquid by adding another half cup of milk or water.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 – To a blender, add a peeled banana, the hazelnut milk, cocoa powder, and water. Blend the ingredients together.

Step 2 – To a small pot, over medium-high heat, add the blended cocoa-hazelnut-banana mixture, the oats, honey (or sugar), and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and then turn to low and simmer it for about 5-10 minutes until you achieve the desired consistency.

Step 3 – In a small, microwaveable bowl, melt the chocolate in 15-second increments, stirring after each time.

Step 4 – Top the oatmeal with banana slices and melted chocolate (and more honey to taste).
