Chili Cheese Dogs Recipe
These chili dogs are so easy to make and great for dinner in the winter. I first tried chili dogs when I lived in Texas, and any time I make them now, it takes me back!
They’re really easy to make with this homemade chili dog sauce, hot dog buns, hot dog sausages, and shredded cheese. Some people like to add mustard, diced onions, or relish, but that’s up to you.

Ingredients You’ll Need
To make 6 hot dogs, you’ll need the following:

- Hot dog buns – 6 hot dog buns
- Hot dog sausages – 6 smoked hot dog sausages
- Shredded cheese – 1 cup of shredded cheese. I prefer sharp white cheddar cheese, but any cheddar works.
- Chili dog sauce – homemade chili dog sauce
Note on the chili dog sauce: You need about half of this chili dog sauce recipe. The other half you can use for chili cheese baked potatoes. Or you can cook just half the homemade hot dog chili sauce.
How to Make the Chili Dogs (Step-by-Step)
Step 1. Cook the sausages according to your package instructions. For these smoked hot dog sausages (pictured below), I’ve simmered them in hot water for about 6 minutes.

Step 2. To a sheet pan, covered with parchment paper for easier cleanup, add the hot dog buns. To the buns, add the sausages, chili dog sauce, and top with shredded cheese.

Step 3. Preheat the oven to 390°F (190°C/170°C fan). To the preheated oven, add the sheet pan with the hot dogs. Bake until the cheese is melted, about 7-8 minutes.

The chili dogs really are that simple to make! This is such a great choice for a filling weeknight dinner, or if you’re hosting a large group for a watch party or get-together and need to serve something that’s quick and hearty.
