Lemon Basil Aioli Recipe
Aioli is a beautifully simple yet incredibly flavorful sauce that captures all the culinary magic of France and the Mediterranean Basin region.
Our aioli sauce brings some much-loved ingredients to the foray. There’s warmth and earthiness from the garlic, zestiness from the lemon, and aromatic sweetness from the basil, enveloped within a creamy sauce that can be used in so many ways.
Aioli is so much more than a Mediterranean take on mayonnaise. It can be spread on grilled meats, used as a dipping sauce for many vegetables and fried foods, and is a marriage made in heaven with plenty of seafood dishes.
So without further ado, let’s dive in and make this beloved sauce at home to wow your dinner guests at your next gathering or party.
Ingredients
Our aioli recipe is simple to make. You’ll need the following:
- Mayonnaise – 1 cup
- Basil – 1/2 cup, packed
- Lemon Juice – 1/2 lemon
- Garlic – 2 cloves
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 – To make your aioli sauce, you will either need a hand blender, a small blender, or a food processor.
If using a hand blender, prepare and add your ingredients to a mixing bowl, then blend from there. If using a food processor or standing blender, you can add the ingredients straight into your machine.
Your basil leaves and mayonnaise can go straight in. Peel and crush your garlic clove in a garlic press, or dice it with a knife, and add in your garlic. Finally, squeeze in your lemon juice.
Step 2 – Blend your ingredients together until you have a smooth, white, creamy sauce. Give the aioli a taste and add salt and pepper as needed. We added 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of pepper.
Once your sauce is ready, pour it into a bowl, tray, or serving dish, ready for your guests to enjoy with a wide range of different sides and dishes.
We served our aioli sauce in a gorgeous dark coconut bowl, which helps enhance the creamy white color of the sauce.
To pay homage to the use of basil in the recipe, we also garnished it with a couple of basil leaves, which not only look good but will also lure curious guests to the dinner table with its wonderfully sweet aroma.
The world really is your oyster when it comes to this fresh, light, and both earthy and zesty sauce.
Maybe you’ve got some fried artichokes on the go, or maybe you have a bowl of sweet potato fries that are dying for a creamy dip on the side.
This gorgeous aioli sauce can even be spread over a juicy piece of salmon, a chargrilled chicken kebab, or a succulent cut of sirloin steak fresh off the grill.
However you enjoy this sauce, we hope its deep and refreshing flavor wows and delights you, your family, and your dinner guests when it’s next time to have everyone over for a gathering or celebration.
