Sparkling Strawberry Prosecco Sangria Recipe

For a super refreshing tipple to enjoy at summer get-togethers, look no further than my sparkling strawberry sangria recipe.

I’ve put a sweet and zesty twist on one of Spain and Portugal’s most popular celebration drinks. It’s easy to make, and every sip is citrussy and crisp, with just the right amount of sweetness.

When the sangria comes out, you know it’s time to party! I’ve used this beloved drink to inspire my own celebratory punch, which strikes a lovely balance between sweet and fruity and crisp and refreshing.

You can have this ready in no time at all, and as long as you give it enough time for the Italian Prosecco to chill in the refrigerator, this drink can go down a storm at your summer barbecue or party.

Get yourself a fancy pitcher, get chopping and mixing, and serve up a summer beverage that is bubbling with a feel-good factor!

Ingredients

To get started with my sparkling strawberry sangria, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Strawberry Prosecco Sangria ingredients on a wooden board.
  • Strawberries – 14 oz (400 grams), about 2 and 1/2 cup when chopped
  • Orange – 1 orange
  • Lime – 1 lime
  • Sugar – 1/4 cup sugar (or to taste)
  • Mint – 2 mint sprigs
  • Prosecco – 1 bottle (750ml or 26 oz), chilled
  • Cointreau or Orange Liqueur (Optional) – 2 fl oz (1/4 cup)
  • Ice (Optional) to serve

Ingredient Notes

Sugar – If you want a less sweet drink, use just 2 tbsp of sugar. If you want the sugar to dissolve faster, you can use caster sugar or superfine sugar instead of granulated. If you’re in a hurry and you really don’t want to wait, use simple syrup instead of sugar and just combine all the ingredients below right away, adding the syrup to taste.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 – Hull the strawberries and chop them. Slice the oranges and the limes, and then cut the orange into slices into quarters and the lime slices into halves.

Step 2 – Add the chopped strawberries, lime, orange, mint, and sugar to a mixing bowl or a large pitcher.

Step 3 – Lightly mix the fruit and sugar, cover with some plastic wrap/cling film, and place the bowl or pitcher in the fridge for about an hour (to let the sugar dissolve and the fruit to release its juices). This is a good time to place your bottle of Prosecco in the fridge to chill.

Step 4 – Transfer the fruit (and all the juice) to a large pitcher (if you used a mixing bowl for the fruit).

Step 5 (Optional) – Add 2 fl oz (or 1/4 cup) of Cointreau (or orange liqueur) to the fruit and mix well.

Step 6 – Slowly pour the bottle of Prosecco over the fruit. You want to pour as slowly as you can to preserve the bubbles.

Step 7 – Mix the fruit and Prosecco (very lightly so as not to lose more of the bubbles).

Step 8 – Bring both the pitcher and some wine or fancy glasses to the table, and make sure everyone gets some fruit with their sparkling sangria. Optionally, serve with some ice.

Serving Suggestions

So, lots of ice can divide opinions. Some people think it’s better to have lots of ice so that you can keep the pitcher cool and on the table. Others think too much ice dilutes the drink, and it should instead be kept in the refrigerator.

What you could do is serve the ice in the glass and pour the sangria from the pitcher. It’s something to think about, anyway.

For me, I found Prosecco with strawberries, supplemented by sugar and lemon with lime, worked so well. However, you can definitely experiment with other fruits and other types of sparkling drinks or wine.

This is a super fun combination that finds that lovely balance between sweet and crisp. I would love to know what you think and how it went down at your gathering or barbecue.

Let me know in the comments and whether you made your own tweaks or added some other types of fruit.
