1/2tspsugarto mellow the acidity of the canned crushed tomatoes.
Instructions
To a large pot over medium-high heat, add the oil. Once the oil is shimmering, after about 30 seconds, add the onion and the salt. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until lightly softened.
Add the ground beef and sauté, stirring from time to time, until the ground beef is browned (about 6-7 minutes) and the liquid evaporates. Then, add the minced garlic and all the spices (paprika, cumin, chili powder, black pepper). Stir to lightly toast the spices and garlic for 30 seconds.
Add the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of sugar (to slightly mellow the acidity of the canned tomatoes).
Bring to a simmer and let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring from time to time.
To make the sauce slightly creamier and a bit smoother, you can take an immersion blender and run it in the chili sauce a few times. Once it's ready, taste it and add more salt if necessary.
Notes
This chili dog sauce recipe makes enough sauce for 12 hot dogs or 12 baked potatoes.
