Easy Hummus Recipe that Ensures You’ll Never Have Store-bought Again

If you’re a hummus-fiend like me, you have to try my easy hummus recipe to dip your flatbreads, chips, and plenty of other goodies in!

Hummus is one of those foods we buy so much of from the supermarket, but rarely think to make it at home. But after making my own homemade hummus, I couldn’t believe how simple it was.

What you need to make this easy homemade hummus:

  • Chickpeas – 1 can chickpeas (400g or 15oz can), drained
  • Tahini – 1/4 cup (60ml) tahini
  • Garlic – 1 garlic clove
  • Lemon – 1 lemon (about 3-4 tbsp lemon juice)
  • Water – 1/4 cup (60ml) ice-cold water
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon salt
  • Paprika – 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Cumin – 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Olive oil – 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Cashews – 1/4 cup (35g) of cashews, optional

Easy hummus recipe step-by-step instructions:

Step 1 – In a blender or food processor, add all the ingredients except for the olive oil.

Step 2 – Blend or pulse until the mix achieves a smooth texture

Step 3 – Drizzle in the olive oil slowly while blending or pulsing the hummus.

Step 4 – Give the hummus a taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. We love lemon so we tend to add more lemon juice at this point. And if it’s too thick, add more ice-cold water (1 tablespoon at a time) and blend or pulse until smooth.

Step 5 – Garnish the hummus and serve with your favorite sides.
