Tomato Toast with Manchego and Serrano Ham
My tomato toast with manchego and Serrano ham can bring some lovely Mediterranean flavors to your dinner table. Each grilled piece of baguette holds a slice of rich manchego cheese and a delicate wrap of Serrano ham on a bed of tomato-garlic sauce. Every mouthful is crunchy, smooth, juicy, and so much more!
Ingredients You’ll Need
To make my tomato toast, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Baguettes – 2 small baguettes (about 20-24 slices, about 1/2-inch thick)
- Manchego – 6 oz (170 grams) Manchego cheese
- Serrano Ham – 2.8 oz (80 grams) Serrano ham
- Tomatoes – 2 medium-sized tomatoes
- Garlic – 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- Salt – 1/2 tsp kosher salt (or more to taste)
- Pepper – a pinch of ground black pepper (or more to taste)
- Olive Oil – 3 tbsp olive oil
This recipe is inspired by the Catalan pan con tomate, which I’ve written and published on Nomad Paradise.
How to Make it (Step-by-Step)
Step 1 – Make the toast. First, slice the baguettes into 1/2-inch slices and brush each side with olive oil.
Step 2 – Grill the bread slices for a couple minutes on each side, on an electric grill, grill pan, or grill. Alternatively, bake the bread slices in the oven at 360°F (180°C) for about 10-12 minutes until crispy on the outside and slightly golden.
Step 3 – Grate the tomatoes, either using a box grater or using the shredding disc on a food processor. Then, add the minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
Step 4 – Add the tomato mixture over the toasted and cooled baguette slices, then the manchego, and finally the serrano ham.
I served mine on a lovely slate serving board. These went really well with my sparkling strawberry Prosecco sangria recipe, I can tell you!
