To make my tomato toast, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Ingredients for Tomato Toast with Manchego and Serrano Ham
  • Baguettes – 2 small baguettes (about 20-24 slices, about 1/2-inch thick)
  • Manchego – 6 oz (170 grams) Manchego cheese
  • Serrano Ham – 2.8 oz (80 grams) Serrano ham
  • Tomatoes – 2 medium-sized tomatoes
  • Garlic – 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp kosher salt (or more to taste)
  • Pepper – a pinch of ground black pepper (or more to taste)
  • Olive Oil – 3 tbsp olive oil

This recipe is inspired by the Catalan pan con tomate, which I’ve written and published on Nomad Paradise.

How to Make it (Step-by-Step)

Step 1 – Make the toast. First, slice the baguettes into 1/2-inch slices and brush each side with olive oil.

Step 2 – Grill the bread slices for a couple minutes on each side, on an electric grill, grill pan, or grill. Alternatively, bake the bread slices in the oven at 360°F (180°C) for about 10-12 minutes until crispy on the outside and slightly golden.

Step 3 – Grate the tomatoes, either using a box grater or using the shredding disc on a food processor. Then, add the minced garlic, salt, and pepper.

Step 4 – Add the tomato mixture over the toasted and cooled baguette slices, then the manchego, and finally the serrano ham.
